Settling in and Settling Down
Week 10
My Assistant has been a bit preoccupied recently so my post is a little delayed but here we are now.
We had a lot of rain recently. She says me & Thomas are wimps for not wanting to go out in it. We still refuse.

Anna-next-door has become fully trained

I have discovered that the nice lady next door has a key to our house. If I get caught in the rain when Dog Monster has taken my Assistant out I go to Anna & tell her & she will let me indoors.

This happened the other day. We all sat on her close up. She complained saying she felt crowded!
No pleasing some people!

It is nice having Thomas here as we go out together quite a bit. He has also been useful in upgrading the food as he insisted on better standards almost immediately.

Dog Monster & I are still getting on OK but he is always a bit stand offish. I usually make the first move but even if I jump on him he tends to ignore me.

New dynamics
Week 9

The arrival of Thomas has really changed everything at our house. He & I have been getting on really well & we play outside together now. It's nice to have a companion even if he doesn't like staying out as much as I do.

This is us in the back garden

This is us out the back together

There was a blip last week because She & I sort of fell out. She seemed to really object when I caught two rabbits - on two different days. She shouted at me & said she couldn't trust me. I took it to heart especially as Thomas & She are besotted with one another & I was feeling a bit pushed out. I'd tried not to show it but bringing rabbits was obviously not the best way to get back in her good books.

She finds Thomas comical sometimes

He puts his feet in the water!

At time of writing I haven't brought anything dead back for 5 days & she has mellowed.
We are friends again.

This shows my bells. There are three now.
The collar comes off at night when we are all indoors.

And of course She's been worried about Dog Monster & keen to make sure he felt OK.
One night we all went to sleep in the spare room & she was thrilled to bits.

Can you see me in the corner in my igloo?

  Newsflash!!
A Visitor has arrived
Week 7.5

Photo of Thomas by Keighley Cat Care

Some of you have already heard that Thomas, my old mate from Foster Care, has come on a visit. I didn't recognise him at first, thought some cheeky fella was trying to muscle in on my "very nice thank you" new home. It turned out to be Thomas.

Here we are in the old days in Keighley

It's unclear if he is going to stay but looking at Her & Thomas together I'd say it's a done deal.

He went "missing" today. She was distraught. I knew he'd be back but you can't tell her anything. She was looking for him all over.
He went over a high fence because she'd blocked up the easy access hole at the bottom thinking he would stay in the garden.

Just cos he's 13 doesn't mean he can't jump!

I can walk along the back fence - but it's easier to go under

Here I am demonstrating use of the hole in the fence

And this is me beating up a cushion.
Anything Dog Monster can do I can too!

Speaking of the Dog Monster he doesn't seem to mind Thomas joining us at all!  It seems so long as he gets all his usual treats & walks he's OK with it.

Mister Two Bells!
(week 7)

Not sure if having another bell put on my collar is a compliment or not? Is it like getting a medal? It seems to be because of my achievement in moving so very quietly that I have caught some mice & a couple of birds while wearing it. She doesn't seem to like me catching things & chases me out of the house if I bring them to her.

It's been very hot here so I have been sitting in undergrowth a lot. She gets a bit cross sometimes when She's too hot & calls me & Dog Monster names. She speaks to us as "the pair of you" which I think is quite nice as I feel included. Although it's usually something like "the pair of you are being really annoying"!

Here's "the pair of us"

This is a spot where I hang out quite a bit in the garden
I haven't quite mastered tree climbing yet but I'm practising

Do you like my feet in this picture?

She said I looked funny here. I was just catching some rays

Bye for now

Settled In - Week 6

I can't believe it's only been 6 weeks since I came here. It feels now like it's my home. I have established some territory & made friends. Even the man up the road who doesn't like the Dog Monster talks to me in a nice voice.

I have grown in confidence and in size too. She says I eat a lot. She gives me food whenever I ask for it, which is probably pretty often if I'm honest.

The big change has been in the early mornings. One day recently She got very angry and shouted at both me & the Dog Monster. It was unusual I hasten to add. She claimed it was because She was really, really tired because of being woken up so early every day. She said I had to sleep downstairs from then on.

I didn't mind and it only lasted one night. Because - and here's the big news - I got poorly. She was extra nice to me and decided perhaps I'd been stung on my leg. It had really freaked me out so I spent all afternoon under the settee and then under the bed, and I didn't eat for, ooh, hours. I had a stiff leg for 2 days and was rather subdued, so She let me upstairs again. I decided to be kind so now I only go on to Her bed when I know She is awake. Then I curl up beside Her and stay quiet until She is ready to open her eyes. This seems to make Her very happy!

I took it easy after I hurt my leg and lay in the garden waiting for any mice who might be passing by the fence. She left my bell off & I caught a mouse & brought it for her.
She grabs at my offerings & then vanishes them. Perhaps She likes to have them all to herself but it seems odd behaviour.

I have found some different places to sit which can confuse Her if She is looking for me. I like a sunny windowsill.

Finally, here's a close-up for you.

Lots of love, Othello xxx

An Uneventful Visit to the Vet - Week 5

I meowed really loudly in the car, much more than when we took our first trip back here. People in the vets laughed at how loud I was (proud).

It was billed as "a meet and greet" so I was taken to meet the lovely Leanne at Settle vets. She liked me of course. She thinks I have some vision in my little eye. This excited Her. It doesn't worry me as I just live my life without concern for such things.

She's been taking photos. This is me in my hideaway place. I had her fooled a couple of times when she couldn't find me. I was right at the back of the igloo.

She was a bit grumpy today because of bedroom shenanigans last night, well, early morning, 3.30am to be precise. It really wasn't my fault this time. It was definitely Dog Monster's.
He & I settled down early in the spare room, him on his own bed & me in the chair where I can watch him. Later, he decided to go to Her room so I got up as well and for some odd reason the door was closed.
There was a fair bit of kerfuffle between us which ended up with a bark and She came out to see what was going on. Anyway, She says we have to sort ourselves out. She says She is losing sleep and that it makes Her cross.

Dog Monster came back one day last week looking very smart. He smelled really funny though. I wasn't sure it was even him at first. Here he is on the chair we take it in turns to sit on.

Here is Dog Monster in all his glory. They went to the Park today. I put these photos in to please Her. He still won't play properly with me......

Can you see me here?

This is a picture of where I go every day. You can just see me, a black & white blob in the middle. I like disappearing over there.
I can't believe I've only been here 5 weeks. It feels like a lot longer.
Bye for now

Exploration - Week 4

I now spend most mornings out & about. There are several new friends to visit across the railway.

This is where I disappear off to. She thinks She knows where I go & threatens to come & find me one day. I call back in every so often just to reassure her.

Apparently steam trains come past in the Summer but I haven't seen one yet. I've seen another sort though. It was very loud so I ran indoors. It's the same with cars. I like to keep out of their way.

She gets most excited when I get close to Dog Monster. I was determined to get near to him this morning. She relaxed & let me touch him when he was sleeping.

She has a thing about toilet rolls & has taken to giving me them to play with. She doesn't leave enough paper on to shred though.

Thanks for reading about me
