Settled In - Week 6

I can't believe it's only been 6 weeks since I came here. It feels now like it's my home. I have established some territory & made friends. Even the man up the road who doesn't like the Dog Monster talks to me in a nice voice.

I have grown in confidence and in size too. She says I eat a lot. She gives me food whenever I ask for it, which is probably pretty often if I'm honest.

The big change has been in the early mornings. One day recently She got very angry and shouted at both me & the Dog Monster. It was unusual I hasten to add. She claimed it was because She was really, really tired because of being woken up so early every day. She said I had to sleep downstairs from then on.

I didn't mind and it only lasted one night. Because - and here's the big news - I got poorly. She was extra nice to me and decided perhaps I'd been stung on my leg. It had really freaked me out so I spent all afternoon under the settee and then under the bed, and I didn't eat for, ooh, hours. I had a stiff leg for 2 days and was rather subdued, so She let me upstairs again. I decided to be kind so now I only go on to Her bed when I know She is awake. Then I curl up beside Her and stay quiet until She is ready to open her eyes. This seems to make Her very happy!

I took it easy after I hurt my leg and lay in the garden waiting for any mice who might be passing by the fence. She left my bell off & I caught a mouse & brought it for her.
She grabs at my offerings & then vanishes them. Perhaps She likes to have them all to herself but it seems odd behaviour.

I have found some different places to sit which can confuse Her if She is looking for me. I like a sunny windowsill.

Finally, here's a close-up for you.

Lots of love, Othello xxx

An Uneventful Visit to the Vet - Week 5

I meowed really loudly in the car, much more than when we took our first trip back here. People in the vets laughed at how loud I was (proud).

It was billed as "a meet and greet" so I was taken to meet the lovely Leanne at Settle vets. She liked me of course. She thinks I have some vision in my little eye. This excited Her. It doesn't worry me as I just live my life without concern for such things.

She's been taking photos. This is me in my hideaway place. I had her fooled a couple of times when she couldn't find me. I was right at the back of the igloo.

She was a bit grumpy today because of bedroom shenanigans last night, well, early morning, 3.30am to be precise. It really wasn't my fault this time. It was definitely Dog Monster's.
He & I settled down early in the spare room, him on his own bed & me in the chair where I can watch him. Later, he decided to go to Her room so I got up as well and for some odd reason the door was closed.
There was a fair bit of kerfuffle between us which ended up with a bark and She came out to see what was going on. Anyway, She says we have to sort ourselves out. She says She is losing sleep and that it makes Her cross.

Dog Monster came back one day last week looking very smart. He smelled really funny though. I wasn't sure it was even him at first. Here he is on the chair we take it in turns to sit on.

Here is Dog Monster in all his glory. They went to the Park today. I put these photos in to please Her. He still won't play properly with me......

Can you see me here?

This is a picture of where I go every day. You can just see me, a black & white blob in the middle. I like disappearing over there.
I can't believe I've only been here 5 weeks. It feels like a lot longer.
Bye for now

Exploration - Week 4

I now spend most mornings out & about. There are several new friends to visit across the railway.

This is where I disappear off to. She thinks She knows where I go & threatens to come & find me one day. I call back in every so often just to reassure her.

Apparently steam trains come past in the Summer but I haven't seen one yet. I've seen another sort though. It was very loud so I ran indoors. It's the same with cars. I like to keep out of their way.

She gets most excited when I get close to Dog Monster. I was determined to get near to him this morning. She relaxed & let me touch him when he was sleeping.

She has a thing about toilet rolls & has taken to giving me them to play with. She doesn't leave enough paper on to shred though.

Thanks for reading about me

Week Three - New Friends & Routines

I have many names - Othello, Jason, OJ, Little Cat, Tinkerbell......

I have had a couple of courtesy visits from local cats. One is pure black with a white tip on his tail. He seems to live out the front. The second one is ginger & white. He appeared near my garden yesterday on the railway line. I can also visit Anna-next-door.

This is me on Anna-next-door's fence. You can see the railway line. It isn't busy at all & there is a special cat path along both sides, just wide enough for us to patrol along. I have been over to the other side too where there are rabbits & undergrowth & lots of exploring still to do.

For harmony I have been told not to make a lot of noise first thing in a morning. Neither She nor Dog Monster like it so I go out. I get up at first light & let her know it's time. She lets me out & I get to go off for an hour while they sleep. When I get back I try to be quiet but it is difficult as the day has begun. Surely if it's daylight we should all be up?

I currently have two collars, one black & one purple. I managed to lose a red one. Which do you like best?

Finally, another paper shredded photo. She thought it might make you smile.

Thank you for reading about my new life.

Of Collars and Carnage - Week Two

We have a bit of a stand off around the issue of collars. She keeps putting them on me & I have to get them off. Also, She has a funny attitude to birds. Doesn't seem to realise that having a dratted bell round my neck is scaring the birds off.

I am getting on OK with the Dog Monster but I don't know if I will ever understand him. He doesn't play like cats play. He plays with his own toy & with Her but he won't play with me. I have even made up a good game where I hide under the sofa & stick my paws out when he goes past but he doesn't rise to it.

The nice Lady-next-door plays though. She sees me every day & I've been into to see her a couple of times. She likes me & I think Dog Monster might be a bit jealous.

I am getting the hang of my "tree". I have various places I can sit, including a hideaway spot.

This was me a few months back, I was only a baby.

This is me now. She says I'm "filling out". Not fat exactly although I do love to eat.

Overall life is good. I did get shut in the downstairs cloakroom one night but I was OK. I got extra treats to make up.

I need to add an extra 'Thank you' to all my supporters from Keighley Cat Care & beyond. A special 'thank you' to Anna who read my Tweets & re-tweeted them, thereby helping me to find my new place.

Here's another picture from when I was in Foster care, to make you smile.

Some photos

This is Thomas who was a good mate of mine in Foster care in Keighley. He is 13 & has half a tail. He is very friendly. It would be nice if he could come & live here with me but apparently Dog Monster has to be consulted & may not agree. Sigh.
This is Dog Monster. He doesn't look so monsterish does he? He has a hold over Her though & seems to run this household. I am working on it!
Here I am on the special cat 'tree' she got for me. I haven't used it much as I prefer to use existing perches like the ones Dog Monster likes!
And this is me looking quite cute.

Week One in a new home

A lot has happened in one week. I was removed from my lovely foster home which I shared with lots of friends, & especially Thomas. More of him later (when She learns to add photos).
I did cry once we got moving in the car. It was only 45 minutes but I managed to keep up the wailing for that time, although not so very loud, to be fair.
When we arrived at my new place there was a Dog Monster who sniffed at me in my carrier. I hissed at him twice & he backed off. I was satisfied that that was him put in his place & this has proved to be the case. She does keep telling him to stand up for himself but I have the matter in hand, don't worry.
She seems to be very attached to the Dog Monster & I try every day to be his friend. He is actually quite interesting & I follow him around & bump him as often as possible. He seems rather aloof. She says that's just his way & he may come round if I back off a bit. She laughs & says it's like a big brother being followed by an annoying little brother but I don't really understand that.
She has tried to please me by getting lots of different kinds of food in. I discovered quite early on that the Dog Monster has ham included in his tea so I have managed to establish that I get some for my tea as well. He had some mince the other day which was nice too. Otherwise I am not over impressed with the food on offer apart from the biscuits & there are plenty of Dreamies, thank goodness. I know where she keeps the packet so help myself if she doesn't get enough out.
The big news is I am now allowed out on my own for as long as I want. Yesterday I went away for more than two hours which She seemed to think was too long as I heard her voice calling a little while before I decided to come back. She says I'm like the Cheshire Cat as I suddenly appear out of nowhere. It's in a book called Alice in Wonderland apparently.
Anyway I caught two birds the first day I was let out completely on my own. That was fun but She didn't appreciate it. She says I can't put any under the sofa again. I got another today, despite having a collar with a bell round my neck (ugh!), & left her some on the path - both legs & another bit. Again She seemed unappreciative, didn't thank me at all.
Oh & I've been given some extra names. She says Othello can be my Twitter name, whatever that means, & a pen name. She calls me Jason & sometimes it's OJ, short for Othello Jason. She says BoJo is called something else at home - well, he'd need to be with a name like that - & what is good enough for Boris Johnson is good enough for me. I'm not too bothered about a name so long as I have my freedom.
I understand my foster carers have been enquiring after me. I want to tell them I am very happy & to thank them for all they have done for me to get me to this point. She says for a one eyed cat to catch 3 birds in 2 days must be something of a record. I will continue to do my best.
